Edith the Puppet - Creating a character from a voice

You can’t understand animatronics without understanding puppets. On my pandemic journey to teach myself how to build animated characters, I decided to take a step back and learn how to make a classic hand-rod puppet. But you can’t have a puppet without a personality! I decided to model her after one of my all-time favorite podcast characters, Edith Slump, as portrayed by Kathleen DeVere on Qwerpline.

I designed her clothes and styling to evoke Edith’s low-energy epicurean personality and her deep baritone voice. Her feather hair envelopes her face, leaving only her eyes to peep out behind her glasses.
